Our initial plan was to leave New Mexico today and head for southern Colorado. After our long day yesterday, I was seriously craving a rest day and Ryan agreed. We slept in, made eggs and sausage for breakfast, cleaned all of our dirty kayak and bike gear, did laundry, mailed postcards and somehow it was 4pm already.
Here's the lovely view in this valley. There's a horse pasture right next to our campground.
Home sweet home.
We got off our butts and had a really nice and slightly punishing 17 mile road bike through the valley on the road toward the next town, Cimarron. From conifer covered mountains, these rock faces appeared. Wow, what a great ride! Downhills are fun, uphills not so much. I had to get off and walk a couple times...still, I would have have changed a thing.
Another shot of the gorgeous scenery. On our way back, there was a group of about 25 mule deer that had to move out of the road for us to pass. They have big ears and prance so effortlessly over fences. Time for dinner, its Italian night here; salad, pasta with moque sauce (thanks to Melissa's papa) and garlic bread. I tried out a new salad I've had in a couple restaurants lately; lettuce with cooked sliced beets, goat cheese, pistachios and a little balsamic vinaigrette, mmm, mmm good!
Miles: ZERO (a new record low)
Gas: NONE (cheap day)
Interesting facts: I think Ryan has sneezed more in the state of New Mexico than I have heard him sneeze in the last 9.5 years.
