So we have found only one radio station on this island and its usually a mix of tunes, but on Sundays, it turns into gospel. Unless I can find a tape to insert into this old Honda, I am jammin' it out to 'This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine...' Ryan gave me a little encouragement this morning to explore today while he was sleeping after a night shift, so I did. And it was wonderful.
We have explored Grace Bay Beach, but none of the others listed in our guide book. I went out on a search for Long Bay Beach, its on the southeastern part of the island. There are no hotels in this area, but several really nice homes. After a bit of searching, I found the public beach access trail.
And this is the reward.
While making my way down the beach, I found several starfish in the shallows.
I came across three other people at the beach, one man from the UK and a couple with 2 dogs. One of their dogs lagged behind after they left and walked down the beach with me. This is generally what most dogs look like on TCI and the Bahamas. They are called Potcakes, named after what the locals fed them...what's left at the bottom of the pot. There is a non-profit adoption center for these cute, loyal, loving pups. Interested?
Before I knew it, I had the entire beach to myself and this is how I spent an hour or so floating in the clear warm sea. Ahhhh...
Long Bay Beach, I will return.
My next stop is Chalk Sound, its a shallow lagoon filled with turquoise waters on the southwestern part of the island that is nearly landlocked with hundreds of tiny islands dotting it. I just found out one of the local restaurants rents kayaks, so I will plan a trip back to see it a little more closely.
This is the eastern edge of Chalk Sound at the end of a street called 'Picturesque Rd'. I agree.
Up next: Tomorrow morning Ryan and I are taking a little puddle jumper to Grand Turk and Salt Cay for three days. Looking forward to it!
Amazing Jill! Please keep the posts coming. While we're looking forward to fall here in Michigan, this paradise is a dream! Hope you are enjoying it! xoxo - kimmer
ReplyDeleteAs beautiful as this place is, autumn is my favorite time of year and after a month or so in the tropics, I know I'll be ready for sweatshirts, apple cider and the brilliant fall colors :)
